"First Female Serial Killer" Mourned

Written by Thaddeus McClean III

Aileen Wuornos, arguably the U.S.’s first female serial killer, was put to death on October 9, 2002 in a state prison outside of Starke, Florida. Convicted for the deaths of six men, the “Damsel of Death” was a known prostitute who claimed her middle-aged victims tried to rape her and that she had killed in self-defense.

On November 9, 2002, outside the Florida State Capital Building in Tallahassee, women from all over Florida will be assembling to observe a candlelight moment of silence at the time of Wuornos’ death, 9:47am. The organizer of this event, Susan Buchold, is the President of the Florida Organization of Abandoned Mothers (FLOAM).

“Aileen Wuornos is a martyr to us, “ states Buchold, “she knew exactly how to treat the no-good men in this state who sleep around and try to not take responsibility for their urges.”

“There is too many repeat Deadbeat Dads ‘round here,” says Marnie Lopez, 26, FLOAM member, “I can see people havin’ one child outta wedlock, ‘cause things happen, you know? But all seven of my baby-daddys is no where ‘round. Miss Wuornos was sendin’ the right message to these fuckers.”

Buchold is planning for approximately 700 FLOAM members to attend the memorial service. After the moment of silence for Wuornos, any FLOAM members who have 3 or more men who have abandoned them with a child will get a chance to read those men’s names aloud over a PA system. FLOAM wants the government of Florida to take action on this disturbing social trend.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lee Winters has issued a written statement that he will have deputies in place around the Capitol that day for crowd control purposes, but notes that his resources will be limited that day due to many of his officers requesting a day off for “Intensely personal, out-of-state, reasons.”
