"On Second Thought, Maybe 'Fatal Attraction' Wasn't the Best Choice for a Valentine's Day Movie" Written by Nicole Frederickson When Jimmy told me that he had a romantic evening planned at his house, I couldn't believe how romantic my boyfriend was being. Then I realized it was Valentine's Day. However, since his usual level of romanticism involves him putting his hands on my chair when I sit down (I don't think he knows that he's supposed to pull it out for me), I was very pleasantly surprised.
Since Jimmy is a firm believer that you can't get something for nothing, he asked if I could pick out a movie and bring it over to watch after dinner. He said to try and get something that we haven't seen before, and if at all possible, to avoid movies with foreign people (especially the French), animals playing professional sports, or Merideth Baxter-Birney. I told my mother that I was going to Jimmy's for a Valentine's Day dinner. She asked where I was really going (she knows that Jimmy's not much of a romantic). I laughed and told her that I was really going to a sex party downtown. She told me to be home by 11 and to use a condom. My mom is so funny. As I was running out the door, I asked my mom for a suggestion on a good Valentine's Day movie. She said that if she knew anything about movies, she never would have let Dad take a role in "Where The Girls Aren't Vol. 6", and maybe he never would have decided that he likes to sit in the other dugout, whatever that means. So she was a huge freaking help. Sheesh. So I got to the video store and asked the clerk. He said that they had a special section for Valentine's Day, with the staff's picks for best romantic movies. They had a picture of each employee over their respective picks, which I thought was really cool (I would so totally dump Jimmy for "Roberto"!) Aye de mi! Most of the movies looked all right, but none really caught my eye. Finally I got to "Kirsten's Picks". She looked like a pretty cool chick, so I thought that I'd take a look and see what she recommended. Her first recommendation was "Se7en", which I'd heard was good, but my boyfriend hates watching Brad Pitt movies, he thinks I would leave him for Brad Pitt. (Well, duh!) Her next choice was "Schindler's List", I was starting to see a pattern here. They all had famous people in them! The last movie was "Fatal Attraction", which I've heard is a very good movie. It has Glenn Close and Michael Douglas in it, and they're very good actors. I picked it out and took it to the desk. Kirsten was actually working the desk, I figured she'd be really excited when she saw that I was going to go with her pick. She looked at me, laughed, and said, "You're down with AVD too?" I told her that the last time I went to my doctor, he said I was clean. She looked at me kinda weird and said, "never mind". I told her that I was having a romantic evening with my boyfriend. She said she thought it would work out great! Well, to make a long story short, apparently this movie was about a psycho stalker that tries to break up a relationship. Jimmy told me that he was just friends with Julia and that nothing had ever happened. Well, I don't buy that, Julia called when I was there. Jimmy tried to say that it was just to check on their homework assignment, but that's a lie. Thanks to "Fatal Attraction", I know that I should get out of there before Julia hides in our house with a butcher knife! Thanks Kirsten! |
